Who Would Win The 2012 Election If It Were Held Today?
Considering that the 2012 election for the Presidency is just over a little over a year away, itÕs definitely the time to glance at the ever-changing field of likely Conservative Candidates who are about to attempt to win in the race against President Obama.
Mitt Romney looks more and more like a favorite to run in the 2012 election . A former popular Massachusetts governor and 08 Presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney at age 63 is youthful, smart and quick-witted, and brings an impressive track record to the table. On the downside, his Mormon faith along with the Massachusetts healthcare law (which is very much like President Obama's maligned health reform plan) might turn off enough voters away from Romney and to President ObamaÕs side.
Sarah Palin burst on the GOP scene back in 08 when she came on as a VP candidate to running mate John McCailn, although she successfully animated the GOP base, she also made a whole variety of now famous gaffes. Unfortunately, the gaffes caught on, and far like Dan Quayle twenty years earlier, Sarah Palin is considered by many to be branded Ð and maybe even unfairly -, for being unintelligent and not at all ÔPresidentialÕ. That she walked away mid-term from her Governorship in Alaska also probably didnÕt win her a lot of political points. Overall, that sheÕll make a run for the 2012 election cycle seems less and less likely.
Mike Huckabee is one other popular name rolling around from the right for the upcoming 2012 election. The former governor of the state of Arkansas and another 2008 candidate that didn't make the cut, Huckabee was the GOP frontrunner for a long time over the course of the 2008 campaign, without same big budgets enjoyed by some of the other candidates that year. Currently the host of a show on FOX News, Huckabee remains well-liked by the GOP base and has also demonstrated his power to run a powerful campaign. Successful fundraising would be the key for a Huckabee Presidential run.
Newt Gingrich has become a name in the Republican party for upwards of 20 years, most famously during his time as Speaker of The House. Seen as brilliant and intellectual man, Gingrich's personal life has been somewhat marred by a number of extra-marital affairs and divorces as well as his polarizing status with the American population at large. That being said, Newt Gingrich can be a great at drumming up the base although he's never made a run for President, his candidacy is looking more likely and more probably by the minute.
Ron Paul, now 75, is the oldest among the likely 2012 election candidates, but heÕs got experience that many of the others donÕt since heÕs run for president before, as a Libertarian in 1988 and next as a Republican in 2008. Unfortunately, most of Ron Paul's platform are looked upon as being too conservative, even for conservatives. WhatÕs more, many have observed that his rabid supporters can be more intimidating than helpful to the campaign.
It is still to far ahead of time to be confident as to who can emerge and become the conservative choice for the 2012 election. Still, itÕll probably end up being an appealing election cycle definitely.
